Silver – 8 year old Miniature Poodle being fostered in Gloucestershire in adult family home with other dogs and a cat.
This beautiful little soul came in from a breeder. We have had him long enough that we can do a more detailed report on him and his progress in our care regarding his character along with his health after being seen by our Vets.
So this little boy has been given up along with a group of other older Poodles and two unsold puppies that had gone past the cute stage.
Cuddles with his foster family
He was very unsettled to begin with and worried, he was paired up in foster with Alvin who is only 8 months but this lovely gentle dog has taken him under his wing and been so lovely with him, he even washes Alvin’s face, they curl up together, eat together and relied on each other for comfort more so in the beginning but still very close where one is the other is.
Looking after his little young friend
As time has gone on more of character is starting come out as he is starting to relax and trust us, it’s slow as he is older but seeing him walk around with a toy, or play with little Alvin his little charge in the garden is lovely.
He is so very sweet with Alvin and will wash his face.
Playing with Alvin so lovely to see this
Starting to take an interest in toys
He had a day out to an Agility show and I was so surprised how confident he was, he particularly liked the cake stall as he was fed treats and bits of cake, happy to say hello to people although still cautious. Just lovely seeing him come out of his shell as he was very much shut down.
Loving the cake stall and waiting for more cake
Taking everything in
He gets along well with the other dogs, can be a bit suspicious of new dogs and wary but once he knows them he will relax. He gets on well with the cat he completely ignores her.
He is friendly with people and not that nervous just craves attention.
He travels fine in the car and walks well on the lead. I have had him off the lead in woodland with no problems he always keeps an eye on you and walks by your heels most of the way but is getting a bit more adventurous.
He has no accidents in this house.

Adventures in the countryside
Health wise – his poor mouth is so infected – his breath is terrible from the rotten teeth left in his mouth and these will be coming out in the next week, he had a very badly infected ear and ear mites for which he has received treatment for and is now not showing signs anymore of shaking his head.
He must have been in so much pain with his ears and teeth. He has also started his vaccinations. No other health issues noted. I think things will change a lot once these terrible teeth are out.
Health check at the vets
This lovely boy if you read between the lines has not had a great life, very neglected health and emotionally wise its going to take time – he is not a difficult or complicated dog but I can tell his character is just not there yet he is still very needy and going through the motions at times but there are lots of new signs daily and it been such a short time we have had him it would be a miracle if he bounced back after all these years. But I know he will.
He will need another dog I feel as he takes confidence and comfort from them, I can see him copying them in the garden when they go to wee and not panicking in the car when they all lay down, choosing to lay beside them he will sleep with Alvin curled up together.
He has shown a few glimmers of wanting to play with Alvin and done some runs around the garden its all there it will all just take time.
The other dog or dogs he will want to live with are ones that will bond with him and let him curl up with them.
His human family needs to be adult only – he would never be horrible to children and has met them and been so good he does not have a bad bone in his body but he is just not suited to a family home – he would cope with visiting grandchildren just fine. Gentle kind people who have had experienced of rescue dogs like Silver and like a dog who wants to be with you.
Over the secure field with children and other dogs
He has his surgery later on next week.
Silver is chipped, started his vaccinations, neutered, flea/wormed.
