The heartbreak of losing a horse is immeasurable, so finding an appropriate way to commemorate this kind of loss can be quite a challenge. Everywhere you look there are memories, from first and last ribbons, buckles and trophies, embroidered jackets and bridle bags, to the engraved nameplate on the door of an empty stall.

How do you decide what to do to preserve and honor such a special relationship? Is there a way to recreate the happiness that was once shared? Here is a list of ideas that might help you or someone you care for find the best way to pay tribute to that special horse.

A Strong Resemblance

A realistic remembrance in the form of a custom-crafted replica that captures the markings, coat pattern, and mane and tail colors of your horse might be the most heartwarming way to honor your horse. There are many companies and artists that will make a plush, felt, wool, or crocheted replica creation. A painted model, statue, or stained glass piece made from your own photos are also a special way to remember your horse. Check out Cuddle Clones, Petsies, ModeledMareAndCo, Ethereal Nest, Custom Breyer Horses, ThreeBearsNaturals and DaliaNerijusFelt.

Scott Reinartz honored his gelding, My Bar Passer, aka ‘Eddie’, with stained glass artwork he hangs near his trophy case filled with belt buckles and plaques.

Scott says, “Eddie was a talented, yet grumpy old soul who always had an opinion of how things should work and would have no issue letting me, or trainer Miya Childers, know what he thought. Even though he was opinionated with his own attitude, he’s a hard-to-forget horse. I look back and I’m not sure who loved him more, me or Miya.”

Wear it with Pride
