A two-year-old dog was rescued by the Arizona Humane Society after finding herself in a tight spot for chasing a cat.
Nova, the two-year-old Weimaraner mix was rescued by AHS’ Emergency Animal Medical Technicians™ (EAMTs) on Friday, January 19.
The shelter shared that they received a phone call about a stray dog stuck in a car Engine in Phoenix, PEOPLE reports.
Upon the medical technicians arrival at the scene, they were welcomed by a 49-lbs pooch wedged in the engine of ’67 Chevy Nova.
The medical technicians found out that Nova got stuck in the “tight spot” because she was chasing after a cat under the vehicle.
PEOPLE reports that the technicians took about 15 minutes to carefully and safely free Nova’s legs from the car’s engine area.
During her rescue, Nova looked visibly frightened. But after being freed, the once scared pup turned into an affectionate and grateful dog.
Tracey Miiller, director of field operations with the Humane Society, tells The Arizona Republic that this is AHS’ first case of rescuing a dog as big as Nova from a car in decades.
“We always get cats out of an engine, but we’ve never gotten a dog out of an engine before,” Miiller said.
After being rescued, the medical technicians brought Nova to AHS for a check-up. Thankfully, she was healthy and unharmed, aside from a few minor scratches on her ears.
The Arizona Republic also reports that Nova spent a few days under medical observation before getting spayed.
And yes, you guessed it right, Nova was named after the car she got stuck on!
Miiller reveals that the pooch was originally named Princess when she arrived at the shelter, but Miiller decided to name her after the car she was rescued from.
Now, Nova is ready for a fresh start and is up for adoption at the Humane Society’s South Mountain Campus.
Miiller describes Nova as “super sweet and wiggly and will make a great companion.”
“She’s obviously very curious, and if you’re someone who wants to learn new things, she’ll be there to show you the way,” Miiller said.
