Two days ago, it wasn’t very birdy at Charleston Lake Park in Arkansas, and I’m okay with that. I was happy photographing winter reflections on the lake.

Winter reflections at Charleston Lake Park

Most of the snow from the recent storm had melted but in areas there were thin sheets of ice on the water. The lack of wind meant the water was perfectly still and the reflections of the trees on the water were absolutely wonderful.

It was peaceful to look at, photograph, and share. At times, Bald Eagles flew over the lake, heading for who knows where. The eagles were too far away to photograph, but just seeing them was a treat. It is always a treat to see those magnificent birds.

The crows cawed, the Pileated Woodpeckers teased me with their presence, and a kingfisher chattered and raised a ruckus.

My fingers had gotten cold, so when I saw two Great Blue Herons flying toward us, I was quite literally sitting on my hands. I had to laugh at that.

I missed out on taking heron photos, and I’m fine with that. Sometimes, I just need to sit and observe nature. I need it as much as I need air.

Looking at the scenery was enough. The few photos I took were enough.

And life is good.
